Auto Insurance Claims: DUI w/no insurance, hi lauren, storage fees

Question
I wrecked my car after being run off the road by some car that drove away after hitting me. I called the CHP for help. Little did I know my insurance had been cancelled a couple days before the accident due to a late payment. At the end of everything I ended up with a BAC over the limit with a totaled car and no insurance... Do I have any alternatives other than paying off a car that I no longer have?

Answer
Hi Lauren,
Since there is no identified 3rd party from which to recover and you can't recover from your own insurance since it was cancelled, then there is no alternative except that you must resolve your financial obligations with the lender.
Even though your car is totaled, it still has a value as "salvage".
You need to get it sold right away because it might be in a location that has daily storage fees.
That money will go direct to your lender to reduce the outstanding amount.
You will then need to work out a lump sum or monthly payment to pay the balance owed to the lender.

I hope that you find this information to be of help.

Your feedback by rating my response will be appreciated.
