Auto Insurance Claims: Claim, sceme, animal blood

Question
I work as an agent for an insurance company. I only had comp on my vehicle. My wife and I came upon a deer in the road and she swerved to miss it.  She clipped the deer and we ended up into the ditch. My company is saying that there is no evidence of us hitting a deer and we have given 4 statements telling what happened. They are now harassing me with all these visits and statements (basically trying to say there wasnt a deer and im lying without saying as much). Is this harassment and can you tell me of my options? Thank you.

Answer
Hi Cade,

As an agent you should know (or at least know now) that insurance companies are in business to not pay claims. Most of them will use any excuse or come up with any sceme to not pay a claim or to reduce the amount they pay. In this case it is the old "there is no proof of a deer or phantom vehicle" excuse. What they are basically saying is that you are lying about the deer and that you likely came home drunk and ran into a ditch and thought that if you blamed it on a deer you could get the damage paid for as a comprehensive claim.

You can agrue the point and perhaps you will convince them that this is the truth. However, with no proof (animal blood or hair) of a deer hit they will likely not buy your version of events. It's unfortunate but that is just the way it is.

I hope this helps
