Auto Insurance Claims: California Dual Auto Insurance, california residence, first insurance

Question
I have two insurance policies on my car because apparently I did not cancel my previous policy prior to signing up with my current one (I thought it would cancel automatically when the term ends.) I signed up with esurance, so there was no agent telling me or helping me cancel my previous one.

Little did I know that my previous one was still charging because I never checked my bank statement thoroughly. And it has been 8 months since.

Is there anyway I could get a refund on those 8 months? I am a California residence.

Answer
Hi Ray,

The insurance company is not obligated to refund your money. However, you should contact the first insurance company and explain the situation. If they do agree to refund all or some of your money you will have to provide them with a copy of your application and policy for the second company to show proof of when the new policy was taken out.

I hope this helps
