Auto Insurance Claims: Another Rear-End Question, insurance comapny, personal injury claim

Question
I read one of your answers to someone else about a rear-end collision and found it very helpful.
My situation was that I was stopped at a red light. My foot slipped off the brake and I rolled forward into the car in front of me (no more than 5 mph). We pulled over, checked the damage (small crack in his bumper). He said he was fine, I was fine, no problem. We exchanged info and left. This was my first accident ever, and my friend says I should have called the police even though it was so minor. No one stopped as a witness.
I reported the accident, as did he, and I thought that was it; his repairs were going to be made, etc.
Today, I received a letter from Geico stating that he filed a personal injury claim 'that may exceed your coverage limit of $10,000'!! Is this possible from such an accident? I have no assets, basically a broke single mom. I'm trying not to panic about it, but I want to make sure I know exactly how to deal with this the best way.
Thank you thank you for any advice.

Answer
Hi Candace,

Do not panic. Your insurance company is required to send you the notice that they sent you. Your insurance company will review all of the other drivers medical records and will negotiate a settlement. Considering the minimal nature of the damage I would imagine that this claim will either be denied by your insurance comapny or will be settled for a minimal amount. Even if the guy is hurt and even if he did have a claim larger than your 10k in coverage, they would not be able to get any more than your 10k in coverage. As you said you are a single mom with no assets. You can't get blood from a stone. So just relax and let your insurance company handle this. You can check in with your insurance adjuster every 3 to 4 monthe just to get an update on what is going on.

I hope this helps
