Auto Insurance Claims: auto insurance coverage, dear old dad, auto insurance coverage

Question
Is there a way insurance insiders insure teens, I have twins breaking the budget for auto insurance?

Do I get less coverage, older cars?

Answer
Hi Wayne,

I feel your pain!

Unfortunately, there is no easy answer. It is not an insider trick. The things you mentioned are a good start. Having older vehicles that do not require comprehensive or collision coverage or selecting higher deductibles such as $1,000,00. Also making sure that the cars have a high safety rating and a low repairability rating. These ratings may not be readily available to you but, when you are considering a vehicle you can call your insurance agent for a rate quote before you buy the car. Your insurance agent may also be able to tell you some of the lowest cost cars to insure for a teenager. Its also a good idea to shop around for insurance. Rates vary quite a bit from company to company.

Even with all these steps the cost of insurance for teenagers is very high. Perhaps you could suggest to the teenagers that before  they are ready to accept the privelage of driving they must be able to also accept the responsibility of driving which includes paying at least part of the cost of the insurance. They could find some part time work in order to contribute to the cause which would take some of the preasure off of dear old dad.

I hope this helps
