Auto Insurance Claims: Concrete through windshield on Interstate, rental car company, interstate highway

Question
Auto Insurance Claims: Concrete through windshield on Interstate, rental car company, interstate highway
Concrete Damage
First of all, thank you for your time and effort in offering this valuable service. My husband was driving a rental vehicle on the Interstate when a 5lb chunk of concrete flew through the passenger side of the windshield. Can you advise if we have any recourse or if the city/state would be liable, as it seems to be a piece of the concrete interstate highway. Also, will our insurance company or rental company count this against us, with higher premiums or refusing to rent to us? Thanks Again!

Answer
Hi Jackie,

You should make the claim on your insurance policy. This will be considered a comprehensive claim and should not effect your premiums. Your insurance company will then decide if they want to pursue the city/state for reimbursement.

As long as the rental car company gets paid for the damage there should be no reason they they would not rent to you in the future.

I hope this helps
