Auto Insurance Claims: UIM, medical bills, insurance company

Question
I was rear-ended (hit and run) at a stop light while on my motorcycle. I was thrown 15 feet into the intersection and landed on my head and back.  I was knocked out for about 5 minutes and had a concussion.  There were other injuries also. We were able to obtain the license number and locate the legal owner (father of the driver).  They only have $15,000 in insurance and my UIM is $100,000.  Their insurance will cover most of the medical bills, but what about the pain and suffering?  My insurance says that I will only get about $2,000. which I feel is not adequate for what I went through.

Answer
Hi April,

You need to understand that when you make an uninsured mororist claim, your insurance company is actually representing the person who hit you. They do not have your best interests in mind. They are just trying to pay as little as possible.

With the amount of your medical bills your total claim is likely worth 50k to 60k or more. You need to hire an attorney on this one. UIM claims can be very tricky and your insurance company has already shown that they do not care about you only saving money.

I hope this helps
