Auto Insurance Claims: auto claims, insurance adjuster, adjustor

Question
I was in a car accident lately where the other driver admitted to the fault of the said accident. My question is what do I do after I called the other person's insurance? They already want to schedule an adjustor to look at the damage of the car. Do I take the car to the body shop and have the adjustor meet me there?

Answer
Hi Mel,

The insurance adjuster will inspect the car, take photos and write a preliminary estimate of the cost of repairs. Then you should select the body shop that you want to repair the car. Do not go to a body shop that the insurance company recommends. You should select your own body shop. Give your chosen body shop the estimate from the insurance adjuster. Your body shop will then assess the damage and if there are any differences the body shop will call the insurance adjuster to work out the difference.

I hope this helps
