Auto Insurance Claims: bent frame, ford f150 crew cab, repair estimates

Question
So, yesterday some guy ran a stop sign and I ended up smashing into the side of his car. My question is how bent does a frame have to be for an insurance company to total my truck out.
I have a 2001 ford f150 crew cab.
Thanks Kari

Answer
Hi Kari,

Frames can be safely repaired and this is done all the time.  The real question will be how much will it cost to repair the truck, and restore it to pre-loss condition?  If the cost of repair comes close to or exceeds the retail value of the truck before the loss, then you have a total loss.  The insurance adjuster and the body shop will write repair estimates and then you will know.  Good luck!
