Auto Insurance Claims: Car Insurance, datsun 280zx, other vehicles

Question
On 1/3/2008 you were asked a question about a 1979 Datsun 280xz that was totaled and the owner was offered very in compensation.

I too own a 1980 Datsun 280ZX and I would like to know if there is anything you can do before hand to ensure that you get what your car is worth. I know that for low retail my car is worth $5000 and for high about $8000 from research on the Internet. What can I do to prevent an insurance company from trying to give me little to nothing if I am ever involved in a car accident?

Answer
Hi Nikeisha,

The best thing you can do is to research the value of your vehicle. Although the value guides are can give a basic idea of the value, you should also look for other vehicles like yours that are actually for sale and the asking prices of those vehicles. You can do this at several websites such as;

1) www.autotrader.com
2) www.ebaymotors.com

You can also simply go to google and type in the year make and model of your car and then search through the results.

I hope this helps
