Auto Insurance Claims: adjuster wants to talk to my 17 year old son concerning an accident he was involved in, 2 different things, insurance claim

Question
An Allstate adjuster called he day after my son was in an accident in my truck. She said she was investigating the claim. My son was cited for driving too fast for conditions. He is 17. I am concerned that she is taking information from a minor, who could incriminate himself without knowing it. Shouldn't the ticket he received from the office suffice? Should I represent or relay his account of the incident or let her have at him????

Answer
Hi Don,

Unless you plan to fight the ticket or you really don't believe your son was at fault, it's ok to let him give a statement. You will have to give permission but this is a standard part of the investigation. The ticket and the insurance claim are 2 different things. One has nothing to do with the other. The adjuster must get a statement from all parties involved in order to make a liability decision and pay the claim.

I hope this helps
