Auto Insurance Claims: Guidance, lane roadway, level 1 trauma center

Question
I was involved in a multiple car accident in Oct. 2007. A young lady crossed 5 lanes of traffic and struck me head on, she was southbound and I was northbound on a six lane roadway with an additional turning lane. I was removed from my vehicle by emergency personnel and transported to a Level 1 trauma center in Houston. After all was said and done, I had several metacarpals fractured, several lacerations on my leg and have been suffering from back ache ever since. I was off from work for one week. On light (restricted) duty since. I have gone to a ortho for treatment of my hand and currently going to Physical Therapy for hand and back.

All medical bills were covered by workers compensation due to me operating my employers vehicle. The car was totalled.

How do I calculate what I should be compensated for? The girl had minimum insurance limits and as I told you, four vehicles were involved. I have state farm and I am contemplating using my uninsured insurance...for compensation..your thoughts are appreciated... My inuries are limiting my employment and my recreation...I can not grip anything with my right hand and I am right handed.

Answer
Hi Steve,
I'm sorry to learn of your injuries and do wish you a full recovery.
Since this injury fell under workmens compensation, in most states your total recovery will come from workmens compensation.  You need to consult a workmens compensation attorney for a full review of this accident.  That attorney will advise you if you have a civil suit or must deal through workmens compensation.
I hope this has been of help.
Sincerely,
Bennie
