Auto Insurance Claims: Auto Fire Damage, state insurance department, auto fire

Question
My 94 Corolla was damaged from heat from an adjoining car fire. Melted front bumper, headlights, grill and paint on front of hood. The insurance for the other car is not wanting to pay for damage. Why? What can I do so they will pay? Occured in North Carolina.
Thanks

Answer
Hi Gene,

I don't understand this. If they insure a car that catches fire and causes damage to another car they should pay for that damage. You should request that they provide you in writing the exact reason they are denying payment. If their explaination does not sound correct to you, then file a formal complaint with your state insurance department. The will investigate the claim and let you know if it is a proper denial or they will force the insurance comapany to pay.

I hope this helps
