Auto Insurance Claims: Do I have to report no-fault accident to my insurance carrier?, insurance carrier, maughan

Question
Hi, my car was hit by another driver when my car was illegally parked behind my friend's house in what is effectively an alley way.  The other driver admitted fault - though she did mention that my car was illegally parked - and provided me with her insurance info.  I would like to know if it's necessary to contact my insurance company to inform them of this incident or if it's not necessary since it was not my fault.

Thanks!

Answer
Hi Helen-

From my experience, it doesn't matter if your car was illegally parked.  It's still not your fault.  It would not hurt to report it to your company- they may help you make sure you get paid for the damage and since it's not your fault it should not raise your rates.
I would be happy to help you further if you are in N. Ca

By the way - 97% of the people I talk to are grossly underinsured and lack an adequete insurance buying strategy.
If you know anyone who you suspect may be in this situation please forward their name and phone number to me so I can educate them before their financial future is devistated.
