Auto Insurance Claims: auto accident, state farm insurance, minimal insurance

Question
When my daughter, got married we added our son-in-law to our State Farm insurance policy because our daughter was still driving and using our car in her senior year in college.  He also would drive it occassionally.  He has his own car insured with someone else.  Recently, he was involved in an accident in his car where he ran a red light.  Witnesses believe he may have had a seizure or something however, my son-in-law cannot remember anything as he hit his head hard and was in the hospital following.  He had only minimal insurance on his policy which will not cover the number of vehicles in the accident.  My question is, since he is insured as a driver on our policy, can our insurance cover any of this?  Is it the driver covered or the vehicle?

Thanks, Linda

Answer
Hi Linda,

Auto insurance follows the vehicle not the driver. Your insurance will not cover any of this.

You son-in-law need to go to the doctor for tests to determine if it is possible that he had a seizure. If they can state thet he did have a seizure the your son-in-law can not be held legally responsible for any of the damage that occured. Even his own insurance company would deny any of the claims if it can be proven that he had a seizure.

I hope this helps
