Auto Insurance Claims: Settlement ?, uninsured motorist coverage, hand specialist

Question
I was in an accident 07/905/2007. Cracked my skull, broke my right wrist. The wrist did not heal as expected, so saw a hand specialist, maybe surgery in the next 5 weeks. The insurance co. wants to settle for 10 grand minus the cost of the 'lien' on my medical insurance. I'll take the 10 plus they pay off all my medical.  What do u think?

Answer
Hi Deb,

You need to try to find out if they are offering the 10k because that is all the coverage there is on the policy. If it is, then you may be able to claim more through your uninsured motorist coverage if you have that coverage on your own policy. If the coverage is not limited to 10k then you likely have a claim that is worth much more than that.  Considering your injury and the need for future surgery you claim is likely worth 5 to 8 times the total cost of all of your bills for treatment, testing, surgery and physical therapy. You should not enter into a settlement agreement until all of your surgery, treatment, and physical therapy are complete and you have been released from the doctors care.  It may be in your best interest to seek the advise of an attorney.

I hope this helps
