Auto Insurance Claims: Teen Insurance, 2007 chrysler 300, nissan maxima

Question
Mr. Guy;
  This is not a question about claims, but I believe your experience may still help.
  I live in Ontario, Canada, and I am looking to buy a car. I am 18 years old. The thing that is stopping me is the ludicrous premium rates that insurance companies offer. I understand that a male 18 year old is a high-risk driver, but I was hoping there was some way around it: being an 'occasional' driver, a foreign insurance company, or something else.
  I checked to see what it'd cost to insure a 2007 Chrysler 300: $410/month.
  A 2001 Nissan Maxima: $400/month.
  A 1994 Ford Torus: $355/month.

This is obviously ridiculously high, and a rate I cannot afford.
  So here are my questions:
  I live with two parents, they each have a car. If a third car is purchased, can one of them be a 'primary' driver, and have me listed as an 'occasional' driver, thus greatly reducing the premium?
  I live in Ontario, is it legal to purchase auto insurance from a company that is outside of Canada?
  Do you know of any companies who has low rates?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you for your time and consideration.

Answer
You definitely do not want to insure the vehicle on your own.  This will be very expensive.  Your best bet is to insure the 3rd vehicle under one or both of your parents (as named insured) and then have you listed as a household driver.  You will then be covered any time you drive a vehicle with their permission.  This will be much less expensive.  You can pay them for the extra cost when they pay their bill.  In order to be safe, you should probably co-own the vehicle with a parent.  This way their will be no question regarding whether they have an insurable interest in the vehicle.

You can only buy insurance from a company licensed to sell in Ontario.  This will include some foreign insurers.
