Auto Insurance Claims: disputing a police report, road rage, leaving the scene of an accident

Question
Hi there, I was involved in an accident where a car behind me ran into the rear of my car on the freeway.  It was a hit and run initially, so I called the police.  The other car finally stopped on the freeway.  The police came and wrote a report, I later found out that the police said it was MY FAULT!  I have never in my time ever heard of anyone who was hit from behind...being at fault.  Then to begin the fact that I was the one who called the police!  How do I dispute this?  My insurance says I have to pay for the damages on the other parties car.  Which he already had damage to begin with.  It was a punk kid that had road rage and then tried to run off!  What do I do!?  Please help.

Answer
Hi Shelley,

You will need to call the policy office that wrote the report and ask him/her how they cam to that conclusion. Also try to get them to ammend the report to show the other person at fault. Only if you can convince the office to ammend the report can you reverse the liability decision. You should also ask the office why the other person did not receive a ticket for leaving the scene of an accident.

I hope this helps
