Auto Insurance Claims: Does this count as a car accident?, health insurance company, car insurance company

Question
I had an accident 3 months ago. My husband was driving while I was in the passenger seat. The road was slippery due to heavy raining and there was lots of traffic. He made a sharp left turn at a cross section. The car didn't hit anything, but there was a pot of very hot soup under my seat (we were going to send the soup to a sick friend), which poured on my right foot and caused second degree burn. I went to ER and had more than 1 month of therapy on the foot. My question is: Since the car wasn't involved in a crash, does this count as car accident? It did happen in the car and was caused by driving. My health insurance company has been paying most of my hospital bills for the treatment, if this count as a car accident, should my car insurance company provide medical coverage before my health insurance? Thanks for your answer in advance.

Answer
Hi Yongwen,

If your policy has coverage for Personal Injury Protection (PIP) then it is possible that you may have coverage.

You should look at the declarations page of your policy (the page that shows all coverage) if the coverage is there then call your insurance company to report the claim and for additional information on claim procedures.

I hope this helps
