Auto Insurance Claims: Tire Blowout, coolant tank, tire blowout

Question
One of my year old tires blew out today. I did not hit anything and was going the speed limit at the time this happened. The sidewall of the tire blew. It took out my overflow coolant tank and caused some damage to my car. Although my car is ok to drive, I need to know if I should file a claim with my insurance or pay out of pocket to fix my car. Is this considered an at fault accident, a not at fault accident, or a comprehensive claim with my insurance company?

Answer
Hi Jay,

I would thing this would be handled as a comprehensive claim. However your insurance company may think differently. You should go to a body shop and get an estimate of the cost of the repairs. Then subtract your deductible. Whats left is the amount the insurance company will pay. If the amount is relatively small and you can afford to pay it, you should. Any claim history could have a negative affect on your policy cost.

I hope this hel;ps
