Auto Insurance Claims: hit and run accident, uninsured motorist coverage, collision coverage

Question
hello, i have a car that is insured in my mothers name and it was involved in an hit and run accident while my friend was driving the car. the suspect struck the car at a red light then took off. my friend and passenger were startled and did not get the license plate number of the other car,but gave a description of the car to the police when they arrived to the scene. its been three weeks almost four and no help finding the suspect. is there anyway to receive help from my mothers insurance company for the damages with just liability?

Answer
Hi Rhys,

Your mother can loan her car to anyone and still have coverage. If she has collision coverage the damage to the car will be covered less her deductible. It is also possible it would go under uninsured motorist coverage if she has that coversge and if the insurance company will use that coverage even though there is no proof that another car existed. But she should give it a try.

I hope this helps
