Auto Insurance Claims: auto damage/but not totaled, auto damage, repairable

Question
what or when would an insurance company deem that a vehicle is totaled. in my case my vehicle is worth somewhere between 13400.00 and 15000.00 the estimate to repair/fix is about 8000.00 as an estimate the vehicle was laid over. should i expect future problems or take the adviceof the repair center that is repairable. and is not considered totaled. what options do i have .

Answer
Hi Bill,

A vehicle is generally considered a total loss when the repair cost is at or exceeds 75% of the vehicle's value. So right now it appears your vehicle is repairable, however yu should be sure the shop does a complete teardown to be sure they have found all of the damage.  Often after repairs start they find additional damage which may be enough to total the vehicle, but if they have already done significant repairs they will not total it and will often do repairs in excess of the vehicle value.

I hope this helps
