Auto Insurance Claims: 2 household vehicles in an accident, household vehicles, stepson

My stepson asked permission to drive my husband's vehicle to drop off a bike at a friend's house.  While backing out of the garage, he ran into the side of my car putting a large dent and scraping the paint.  Can I turn this into my insurance?  I am wondering if one vehicle listed under the account hits another vehicle if it will be covered?

Hi Karisa,

Yes you can make the claim and it will be covered.  However, you may want to get an estimate of the damage before you call your insurance company.  If thecost to repair is less than $1,000.00 you may just want to pay for it our of pocket.  The claim will be considered an at-fault event and will likely increase your premiums for the next 3 years.
