Auto Insurance Claims: Similar to the question with the guy and his truck, gap insurance, honda civic

Question
Hi Richard, just the other day there was an auto accident involving two cars. One of the cars lost control and hit the rear of my car, which was parked. Then kept going and hit a truck which in turn the tuck hit the car next to it. My car is only one month old and its a honda civic. The adjuster came today and said it's repairable. I have gap insurance but It's not totaled. I really don't want to drive this car anymore after it has been into a collision. I filed a claim with both insurance parties but still haven't called and reported it with my insurance. I guess the two insurances will fight about it and decide who is to pay for the damages of all 3 vehicles that were parked. My question is what are the steps I should take in getting the most out of what I can get. I want to have the insurance pay for my auto insurance and car payment for one month since I wont even be able to drive it. Do you think I should report it to my insurance? Thank you for all yor help.

Answer
Hi Staci,

There is nothing to fight about here. The only one responsible for the damage to all vehicle is the one that lost control and hit your car.

As for what they owe you:

1) the cost to repair your car
2) a rental car fron the dat of the collision until the repairs are complete
3) Payment for the loss of value due to the collision, known as diminished value.
4) keep trak of all time you spend dealing with the wreck. You can charge them an hourly rate for your time, generally $10. to $15. per hour.

I hope this helps
