Auto Insurance Claims: Medical Liability, bodily injury liability, uninsured motorist coverage

Question
I was in a car accident that was deemed my fault. I have bodily injury, uninsured and underinsured motorist coverage. My insurance paid for my car repairs but I have medical bills, deductibles and copays. Is my insurance company responsibly to pay for my medical bills

Answer
Hi Lorraine,

The types of coverage available vary from state to state. Some states have Personal Injury Protection (PIP) coverage which pays for medical costs for you and occupants in your car. If you do not live in a state thate has PIP coverage, you may mave another coverage called Medical Payments (Med Pay) coverage.

You should look at your policy to see if you have either of these coverages or ask the claims adjuster at your insurance company.

Unfortunately, Bodily Injury Liability coverage is for injuries that you caus to other people not your self. Uninsured motorist coverage is for injuries to you that are caused by an uninsured motorist but does not cover you when you are at fault in an accident.

I hope this helps
