Auto Insurance Claims: Car Rental, rental coverage, rental car

Question
My car was recently stolen. My insurance was going to settle for $23K. But the car was recovered three weeks later with minor damage. Now they want to repair it for $7k, but it will take another month to complete repairs.

My insurance explicitly states that I can retain a rental car for only one month per claim. And they have informed me that my month is up and I will lose my rental this week, despite the fact I will not have my car back for another month from repair. Is there anything I can do about this? Thanks!

Answer
Hi Robert,

Unfortunately, the one month of coverage is a contractual limitation. What that means is that when you purchased your policy, that is the amount of coverage that you purchased.

Although it will not help you in this situation, you should increase the amount of rental coverage on your policy so this does not happen again.

I hope this helps
