Auto Insurance Claims: Denied Collision Claim, state insurance commissioners, commissioners office

Question
Hello,
We recently switched to a new company. We paid the deposit and received a policy with collision and comprehensive. We then went on vacation. While we were gone, the insurance company "quietly" removed collision and comprehensive. We were never notified. We were shocked when my fiance had an accident and the company told us they were denying our claim because, you guessed it...No collision. They claim that because the vehicle was not preinspected, they removed collision from the policy. Does the company have to warn or tell us when they modify our policy? What is our recourse? Thank you.

Answer
Hi Samuel,

If the company or their agent told you, that as a condition of coverage, your vehicle must be pre-inspected before coverage would take effect, then there is nothing you can do. On the other hand, if you received no such notification, then you should contact your state insurance commissioners office to file a formal complaint.

I hope this helps
