Auto Insurance Claims: Auto Insurance Claim, auto insurance claim, keith don

Question
Hi, I had a question about my insurance claim.  I was the victim of a hit and run accident.  She hit me from behind, and then she kept on going.  The state troopers caught her down the road however.

I filed the claim through my insurance company because I don't have any information about the lady.  I am still waiting for the police report, but that can take up to 2 weeks, and I need my car for work.

If the lady has insurance, can I recoup the deductible I am paying to my insurance company since I filed the claim with my insurance company not knowing whether or not she has insurance?  The state trooper told me that I am not at fault for the accident.

Did I do the wrong thing by filing the claim with my insurance company instead of waiting?

Thanks,

Keith

Answer
Hi Keith,

Don't worry. You did everything correctly. When the policy report is ready, get a copy of it and provide it to your insurance company. Once your repairs ar finished, your insurance company will go after her insurance company to get back the money they paid out as well as your deductible. The process could take up to 6 months, but if she had insurance, you will get it back.

I hope this helps
