Auto Insurance Claims: pursuing an auto accident claim, state insurance commissioners, insurance compnay

Question
I was involved in an accident which totalled my car.  The other person's insurance compnay seems to be low balling the value of my car, claiming that they use a NADA site for only businesses.  When I check the site, there are 3 price ratings - L-M-H.  Are they pulling my leg aying there is only a fixed price?

Answer
Hi Mary,

Insurance companies will ofter try to lowball you. It is up to you to prove them wrong.

You should check the following websites:

1) www.nada.com
2) www.kbb.com
3) www.edmunds.com
4) www.autotrader.com

The last one will let you locate vehicle like yours that are currently for sale. Average all of the pricing info you find to come up with an overall average. If the insurance company will not negotiate a fair value with you after that, then file a complaint with your state insurance commissioners office.

I hope this helps
