Auto Insurance Claims: LAPSED INSURANCE, hanging over my head, inurance

I HAD AN ACCIDENT THAT WAS MY FAULT AND I DID NOT KNOW THAT MY INSURANCE HAD LAPSED, AFTER THE ACCIDENT I CALLED MY INSURANCE TO MAKE A PAYMENT, AND THE AUTOMATED SYSTEM TOOK MY PAYMENT, I THEN CALLED MY INSURANCE COMPANY AND THEY TOOK THE CLAIM, HOWEVER I DON'T WANT TO DO ANYTHING ILLEGAL, THEY SENT MY CAR TO THE SHOP AND TOLD ME TO RENT CAR, I DID.

I'M THINKING THAT I SHOULD PAY FOR THE DAMAGES ON MY OWN AND THE OTHER LADIES CAR, AND MY CAR RENTAL, EVEN IF THE INSURANCE TAKES THE CLAIM I DON'T WANT TO HAVE THIS HANGING OVER MY HEAD, MY QUESTION IS THAT AFTER I TAKE FULL RESPONSIBILITY FOR THE CLAIM, CAN THE INSURANCE COMPANY CANCEL MY POLICY OR WHAT CAN THEY DO? AND WHY DID THEY SEND MY CAR TO A SHOP WITHOUT CHECKING IF THE INSURANCE WAS IN FORCE?

Hi AC,

Sometimes there is an overlap of dates. Sowhile you may not have paid the premium on time, you may still have had coverage.  Most inurance companies computer systems are very up to date on coverage. When you make a claim one of the first things they do is to make sure there is coverage and that the policy is in force.

So I would just sit tight and don't worry that you have done something wrong.  The reality is that your coverage was likely in full force. If there is a problem the insurance conpany will notify you.
