Auto Insurance Claims: rear ended, own insurance, diminished value

Question
I was rear ended yesterday and I made a claim. Should I have to pay the deductible on my collision or is the other insurance responsible.

Answer
Hi Bill,

Any time you make a claim against your own insurance company, you will have to pay the deductible. Your insurance company will then go after the other insurance company to get back the mony thay paid out as well as your deductible. This process is called subrogation and can take upto 6 months or longer.  You may also be able to contact the other insurance company to see if they would be willing to advance you the amount of the deductible. Some companies will do this and some will not. The other option would be to place the entire claim through the other insurance company. Then they will pay the full cost of repairs as well as a rental car. Also don't forget to make a claim for diminished value.

I hope this helps
