Auto Insurance Claims: Cost to defend, mediation service, insurance company

Question
I have been forced to sue for repairs due to an accident. The defendant has given everything over to his insurance company and will not speak with me or a mediation service. The damage was minor. My question is with the damage being so minor, under $900, how much does it cost, on average for an insurance company to defend against a claim? Is it not worth it for them, and even preferred to settle the claim?

Answer
Hi Brian,

Although it is quite expensive for an insurance company to defend a case, sometimes they are just trying to make an example of someone and will spend several times the value of the claim to defend it. This is a very small claim though. I would just follow through with the claim and get what your entitled to. It may be that they are just trying to intimidate you into dropping the suit.

I hope this helps
