Auto Insurance Claims: un-occupied parked vehicle, insurance companies, witness

Question
I had my car parked outside my house. There were some cars in my driveway so I parked it in front of my house. Apparently a car ran up the side of it over night. My question is if I report this will my ins. go up even though I wasn't driving. What should I do?

Answer
Hi Nathan,

Unless there was a witness who saw another vehicle hit your vehicle, most insurance companies will consider it an at-fault event. This may case an increase in premium at time of renewal.

You could call your agent first to ask if this is the case and if so, how much will your premium increase.

I hope this helps
