Auto Insurance Claims: value, blue book values, vechical

Question
when you total your vechical, does the insurance give you the avrage trade in value or the privit party, or suggested retail value?

Answer
Hi Christina,

Most insurance companies do not use Blue book values at all.  Many of them will use an outside company to do a market search to determine the value. You should ask the insurance company to provide you with what ever that used to determine your value. then you should verify the information. You can also check www.autotrader.com to look for vehicle like your that are currently for sale in your area. This will help you to determine if the offer is fair.

I hope this helps
