Auto Insurance Claims: an accident in my uninsured company truck, written estimates, repair estimate

Question
I recently bought a business from a friend 7/06, very small, my friend kept assuring me that all the insurers would follow the business, however I never kept up on the insurers. 2 weeks ago, i am involved in an accident in the company truck i am registered owner on , relatively minor, 3-4000 and the person I hit says she will get the repair estimate and doesn't report it. My problem is I have insurance with all my vehicles ,(now...including the van)so I technically was insured, but will I be getting into more difficulty having been in an accident, and driving a vehicle with no insurance. I really believed the accident might have been way lower in value.

Answer
HI Clayton,

If there was insurance that covered YOU at the time of the accident then there should be no problem, except that if will likely increase your premium at renewal time. If there was not insurance that covered YOU at the time of the accident, then you should pay for the damage out of pocket. Have the other person get 3 written estimates then average them. Also require them to sign a full release of all claims before or at the same time as you pay them.

I hope this helps
