Auto Insurance Claims: SUNROOF DAMAGE, mechanical failure, structure of the body

Question
IS SUNROOF DAMAGE CONSIDERED STRUCTURAL DAMAGE?

Answer
No, A sunroof is not a structural componant.  Structural componants generally include the welded metal structure of the body or frame.  It is the foundation that everything else is built on.  A sunroof is simply a panel that fills a whole.

In theory, because the sunroof fits into a square just like a windshield, it may serve as secondary structural support, but it is not part of the body structure.

I have a feeling that you're asking this for the purpose of claiming diminished value and a sunroof being replace doesn't devalue a car.  What if it had a mechanical failure like a radiator or transmission etc.?  Would the repair of that mechanical failure diminish the value of the car?  No.
