Auto Insurance Claims: stolen car, juris doctor, automobile insurance

Question
My car was stolen last night and i have liability insurance. The police found the car and said its in poor condition so i was wondering if this is just a loss or can i get something out of this

Answer
Dear Adrian,

Whether or not your car is covered by insurance depends upon what you bought.

If you bought comprehensive, then your car is covered, less your deductible.

Liability insurance does nothing for anybody but someone YOU HIT.

If that is all you have for insurance, then I don't see any way for an insurance settlement.

HOWEVER, check with your prosecuting attorney about two topics.   First, make sure that you get notified if they have the thief charged with a crime so you can demand RESTITUTION AS PART OF HIS SENTENCING.

Second, ask the prosecuitng attorney if your state has a crime victims program.  Many states have a program wherein victims of crimes can get some compensation for their losses.

FINALLY, DO YOURSELF A FAVOR, and learn to protect yourself and your passengers FROM THE LIABILITY OF ALL THE GOOFBALLS driving around out there.  Best information on automobile insurance coverages http://www.settlementcentral.com/page8008.htm
