Auto Insurance Claims: Car Insurance, hp notebook, auto policy

Question
My father owns the truck i drive, the full coverage auto policy is in his name and i am listed as a driver, but we do not live in the same house. Am i covered in an accident, or if there is theft of the vehicle?

Answer
Dear questioner,

You are listed as a driver, and hence as an insured under a policy owned by your father, who also owns the vehicle. You are insured, but your father gets the money for loss of the truck.

As such your father is covered for theft for replacement value less deductible under his comprehensive irrespective of who was driving or had possession at the time of the theft.  The comprehensive will also cover personal property lost in the theft, although as you might expect, there may be enhanced proof required for such a claim (e.g. receipt that you actually once did own a $2,000 HP notebook)

Hope this helps,
