Auto Insurance Claims: insurance pay out, budget rental truck, body shop

Question
My car was recently damaged by a Budget Rental Truck and they have sent me a check for the repairs made out to me for the repairs as well as a rental car. My question is: Do I have to use the body shop the estimate was for or can I change my mind an go somewhere else? They made the check out to me directly, not the body shop but I didn't know if I have to send a receipt to them for repairs or is the pay out and in full mean the case is closed?

Thanks

Answer
Hi Lisa,

You can use any body shop you want. The check is payable to you. There is no receipt or anything else you need to send to the body shop.

You should be careful though. No matter what body shop you go to, the final cost may be higher than the original estimate. There may be hidden damage. Be sure to give your estimate to what ever body shop you go to so thay can contact the insurance company for supplements if needed.

I hope this helps
