Auto Air Conditioning & Heater Repair: 98 Blazer Climate Cotrol, side kick panel, s10 blazer

Question
QUESTION: My 98 S10 Blazer has the computerized climate control. No matter where it is set, it blows hot air.If you push the air conditioner button it comes on and blows cold for a few seconds and then goes hot again. I can hear what sounds like a door opening and closing continuously under the passenger dash. Once, when the glove compartment door was shut, it started working correctly. I have checked online and this is a common problem but I cannot find the "fix". Your advice would be greatly appreciated.

ANSWER: Hi Paul

Try resetting your actuator motors first.  You need to disconnect the battery and reconnect and let the system reset itself.  If this does not work let me know and we will take the next step.

QUESTION: First, thanks so much for replying. I tried the battery disconnect, and let it set for about six hours. Still did the same thing, so I'm ready for step two.

Answer
OK you need to isolate which motor is making the noise.  You can open the glove compartment and try an isolate the motor making the noise.  You will see one close to the side kick panel that one controls the reticulating air door.  Then you will see two more actuators one controls the heater door usually the bottom one.  You can turn the knob and see if it starts making the noise.  The other one is the mode door.  You can move the controls and listen for the one that is moving.  If you do not have a listen devise then just use a long  screw driver and put the tip on the actuator and the other end put your hand over it and put your ear on your hand.  Let me know   Depending on the motor causing the problem you may have to remove the dash.  Their may be another one form the drivers side under the steering column.
