Where is the resistor located?

I can't be for certain because I do not know what year of Mazda we are talking about. Occasionally the manufacturers will switch up the location. But about 95 percent of the time you will find them mounted directly to the blower motor housing. If you cannot access it from underneath the passenger dashboard, you may be able to see it by removing the glovebox. It will look to be about a 2"X4" block with about 6 wires plugging into it. If you do not find it here, please let me know what year the vehicle is and I will look into it further.
