Auto Air Conditioning & Heater Repair: 2001 ford taurus heater problems, outlet hoses, ford taurus

Question
We changed the thermostat and make sure it wasn't air locked. The heater will not make any heat, the car isn't getting hot or running hot but when it's colder outside it will steam when I shut it off and there is no pressure on the cap. The heat will blow a little warmer if I use the second setting and not high but air blowing out is not warm at all.

Answer
Heidi,
No matter how long you run the car it does not get hot? I ask this because it sounds as though your water pump is not working. If you have a new thermostat, it should be opening and closing as it should. (Unless you got a bad one, it does happen) Your water pump should be moving the coolant through the system, including the heater core, if your thermostatis opening.
I don't know about the 01 taurus, but i have seen a great many newer cars that do have an air bleed valve on them to make certain that it doen't "air lock" When you refilled the system after changing the thermostat, did you open this bleed valve? If not, then I would say you may need to do it.
Also on your radiator. chack the inlet and outlet hoses. Squeeze them when the car is running and warm. You hould be able to squeeze them like you are trying to pinch it off without too much force at all. If one of them is solid or harder to squeeze than the other, then either your thermostat is not opening or it does need to have the air bled out of it.
