Auto Air Conditioning & Heater Repair: 99 Honda Civic blowing fuses for a/c, amp fuse, compressor clutch

Question
What could cause my 20 vlt fuse in the fuse box under the hood that runs my a/c compressor to keep blowing?

Answer
Breanna,
The 20 Amp fuse under the hood supplies power solely to your compressor clutch relay and your compressor clutch. What causes a fuse to blow is something in the system drawing more amps than the fuse is rated for.
There are only two things that come to mind in this part of the circuit. Those are...
First and most likely, your compressor clutch coil has one or more windings in it that are shorting to another winding. This would mean that your clutch coil would need to be replaced. On average, I would expect a shop to charge between 400 and 800 dollars for this depending on wher ein the country you are located.
The second is that you have 1 or more wires in the harness that have shorted together. This should be fairly easy for you to rule out simply by looking at your wiring harness in the engine compartment. Are there any wires that look burnt or have the insulation melted? Concentrate on any parts of the harness that come near a heat source, such as the exhaust manifold, engine block, etc. If it is not easily located, this could also run the price up simply in labor rates trying to locate the bad part of the wiring.
But in my experiences, I believe it is safe to say that one of these two things are occuring.
