Steering Column Repair: steering column, needle nose pliers, mitsubishi eclipse

Question
well i did drill the release pin on the 95 Mitsubishi eclipse and it slid right out. the housing doesn't look damaged. is there any other reason why its locked up.does it have anything to do with the anti theft or does it require some kind of chip.any advice or solution's would be much appreciated. thx

Answer
Hi John:
Nope.  The locking mechanism for the steering column (not turning) is all mechanical, nothing electrical or 'chip' related...that's all for the engine running portion.  There is a large pin that moves up into the tube from inside the lock housing and locks the steering shaft in place.

It doesn't sound like you did anything wrong.
Take the cylinder back out, carefully turn the mechanism with a screwdriver (or needle nose pliers) and see if the steering releases then.  You may have to hold or move the steering wheel one way or the other as it may be bound just by turning tension.

That's about all I've got

I hope this helps
