Question
I have an 2004 acura mdx, was not cooling enough, so I added 1 can 134a,switching between liquid and gas, started adding 2nd can when compressor starting cutting off and on, stopped recharging, now compressor will not come on at all, What do I do now?
Thanks, John

Answer
John,
When you first started recharging it... was your compressor engaged? I ask because from your description I am interpretting it as though it was working, just not blowing cool enough to satisfy you.
If this was the case, compressor engaging as it should, and you continued to charge it until the compressor began engaging and disengaging, then you overcharged it.
You have a high pressure cutout switch that disengages the compressor in the event of excessively high pressure. If you have overcharged it, that excessive amount of refrigerant will cause enough pressure to open the contacts in this switch, cutting off your compressor.
Also, when you were charging it, I assume you were charging it on the low side, correct? I say this becasue the kits that you buy from autozone or wherever will only connect to the low side. You should never put liquid refrigerant into the low side of the system. This could cause your compressor to bust the piston rods inside it. Liquid only gets charged into the high side of the system.
But the first thing that I would check is your pressures. If you can send me both your high and low side pressures, I may be able to rule out the overcharge or get an idea of what else may be going on. I realize that the compressor won't be on when you take them, but just the pressure as it sits will tell me a little bit. Without seeing these, I would go with the answer above, in which case, having some of the refrigerant recovered from the system should solve your problem.
Thank you for the question, I hope I was of some assistance. If I can do anything further during this process, or in the future, please do not hesitate to ask. If you found this response to be of some assistance, please remember to rate this answer. Thanks again and good luck in everything.
