Auto Air Conditioning & Heater Repair: 97 Audi A6 Avant AWD, audi a6 avant, audi a6

Question
The blower motor is beginning to squeak.   Must I take the dash off to replace it
or can I access through the engine compartment?   Thank you!

Answer
Fay,
The blower motor on the Audi A6 is mounted in the heater housing. You will have to remove this housing to replace the blower motor. This will come out through the engine compartment on your vehicle.

On a good note... The Audi A6 also has a separate housing for the evaporator core, so you do not have to recover the refrigerant and remove this also as you do in most vehicles.

While this replacement is going to involve several crooked neck positions and a little time, it is not so indepth that it needs to be taken to a service shop to be done... providing you have a little bit of mechanical knowledge and ability.

A couple tips... It is a good idea any time you are disconnecting the battery on an Audi to make certain that you have the radio anti-theft code prior to doing this. It also goes without saying the you should drain the rediator fluid prior to removing this box. And also, while the box will be removed from the engine compartment, you will still need to take apart the center console where the shifter and the parking brake handle is located. OK, last one, I promise... after you re-install the heater box... make certain that you apply a liberal amount of rubber silicone around the housing, this will prevent your air from blowing into the engine compartment and make certain it goes into the cab where you want it.

Thank you for the question, I hope I was of some assistance. If I can do anything further during this process, or in the future, please do not hesitate to ask. If you found this response to be of some assistance, please remember to rate this answer. Thanks again and good luck in everything.
