Auto Air Conditioning & Heater Repair: Disconnect rear evaporator 99 Yukon, vice grips, retaining clip

Question
I have a 99 Yukon that has a leak in one of the lines going to the rear evaporator coil. I cannot disconnect the lines at the rear evaporator. I have had no problem disconnecting the lines in front. I don't want to break the coil as they are only aluminum. Can you help?

Answer
Dave,
The only thing that I can suggest is that you spray it down with a penetrating fluid or WD40. Let it sink in and then try separating the line from it. It should only be attached, if memory serves me, by a retaining clip and screw. Try grebbing onto the evaporator lines with a set of vice grips with the jaws wrapped in cloth or a rubber shield (like an inner tube) so that it doesn't score the evap. lines. This will at least allow you stabilize the area so you can be a bit forceful with the line side.
I don't remember the lines ever being that difficult to remove. The tension on the clip is usually the most difficult part of it all.

Well, I hope this gave you a little help anyways. I am not sure as to whether or not this is what you were  looking for. But thank you for your question and if I can do anything firther now or in the future, don't hesitate to ask. If you found this at all helpful, please remember to rate this answer.
