Auto Air Conditioning & Heater Repair: how does a thermostat affect this, hyundai dealership, fellow instructors

Question
QUESTION: On the 01 Hyundai, could the thermostat have an effect on how  the a/c runs,  I have a similar problem with my Elantra and I have been told it sounded like a thermostat going bad.  My car started running hot after a/c started blowing warmer air.

ANSWER: Scott,
The only connection that the A/C system has with the other components in your vehicle is through the computer. If your thermostat is going bad, it will cause your engine temperature to rise. Being that the condensor and the radiator share the same cooling fan, it is possible that when the computer senses the that the temperature is rising and not cooling down, it shuts down the conpressor so as to allow the heat to flow from the radiator at a a better rate, rather than trying to cool both the condensor and the radiator.
This is the only possibility that I can think of. In all honesty, I have never seen it happen... I talked to my fellow instructors here at the schoolhouse and they have never seen it happen either. If you are being told this by a hyundai dealership, then I would go with it. But if they can explain what is happening better, I wish you would pass that information on to me. Just for my knowledge pocket.
Thank you for the question, I will contiue to think about this and if I can come up with anything else, I will be certain to follow up with you.

QUESTION: This is really not a question just a reply, I replaced the thermostat, which I guess allow the clutch on the compressor to engage, I did have to add freon because I had taken too much freon out the previous time. I did not have a leak in the air conditioning system, the car hasn't over heated and the air is blowing cold. Thanks for your help!

Answer
Outstanding. Glad to hear it. So I guess my guess was in the ballpark anyways. Glad I could help, and if I can do anything in the future, just let me know.
If you found my answer helpful, please don't forget to rate it.
Thanks again, and good luck in everything.
