Auto Air Conditioning & Heater Repair: refrigerant, 1994 chevy 1500, stepside

Question
Where do you refill the refrigerant on a 1994 chevy 1500 stepside?

Answer
Danielle,
As for the specific whereabouts of your connections, I don't know the truck, so I won't be able to tell you that. I have looked online for pictures of the engine compartment and if your vehicle matches the picture, here is what I see. On the passenger side of the truck there is a silver canister that has two lines protruding from it. It also has a fitting. This fitting is the low side fitting. The high side fitting is also on the passenger side but closer to the compressor. It will be attached to an aluminum line. They may be easy to spot it they have caps on them. The low side is blue, the high side is red. If they do not have caps, they look similar, but the high side is larger in diameter than the low.
If you are needing to add refrigerant to your system, it goes without saying that you definately have a leak. I recommend you locate that leak and repair it, otherwise you may have to continue charging it again over time. To find the leak it is usually easy enough. Once you have pressure in the system, just by adding refrigerant you do that, whether the truck is on or off. Get a regular spray bottle with soapy water in it (windex works well, also)Just go around your system and spray every line down where it connects to something. If you see bubbles form, it is leaking at that point.
I hope I was able to help a bit. Thanks for your question and good luck.
