Auto Air Conditioning & Heater Repair: Auto Air Conditioning, auto air conditioning, leak test

Question
1993 Dodge B250 van. I recently bought this van. It had been sitting awhile and the A/C was not cooling. The seller wished to do me right and took it to a shop. It appears that the shop removed whatever R12 was in it and simply changed the fittings and put in R134. They did not even bother to put a sticker on it to show the change. Can you give any advice on switching it back to R12 or should I replace the needed parts and switch it over properly to 134? Thanks.

Answer
Hi smitty, You could convert the system, but you need to be sure there are no leaks.any system is only good if its solid.Consider the unit is old.It will be expensive to upgrade to R134.I would consider replacing the evap, compressor, drier, expansion block valve. The hoses and condenser are pretty tough.do the leak test first.

good luck,davidt
